Sam Nightingale is a professional photographer who produces photographic documentation for artists, performers, galleries and various commissioning agencies. He specialises in documenting live art, performance, events and gallery-based installation.
Commissions undertaken have involved him working with a range of international artists in various sites and situations. His work is typified by a fleet-of-foot responsiveness, thorough research and understanding of the work to be documented and sensitivity to the artistʼs intentions and the site itself.
Sam Nightingale is an artist with an active interest in exploring the spaces between the still and moving image, and between articulated and non-space in relation to the urban environment, landscape, perception, movement and the banal.
Much of Sam’s practice is propelled by a fascination in the interstice between film and photography, and the mechanics of vision especially when relating to early cinema. Working across and through various mediums, his work encompasses photography, video and sound.
