Nikel

An exploration into dark/dirty ecology in the far-north of Russia, made during a fieldtrip to the
Arctic Circle.

Nikel, the so named town, is decimated by the nickel smelter plant that sits in the heart of the town. Extreme pollution levels and sulfur dioxide fumes produce a monochromatic landscape of bald hills and barren of plant life for miles around.

The work was produce while participating in 'Dark Ecology', a three-year art and research project produced by Sonic Acts (Amsterdam) that brought together artists, philosophers and environmental researchers in the
Arctic Circle.
